Healing Language: A Guide for Physicians, Dentists, Nurses, Psychologists, Social Workers, and Counselors
Words can harm or charn, hurt or heal. This is a book about the conscious use of words for healing, for helping others to feel good about themselves, and to provide hope to those who are troubled. Since changing an attitude, a feeling, or a perspective can have direct physical effects on a person's suffering, either emotional or physical, it behooves us as professionals to use language in such a way that it has a positive effect on our patients so that it enhances these effects. Words are indeed powerful, whether they be a coach's half-time pep talk, a general's speech to his troops, or a physician's bedside manner.
